Facebook wants you to snitch on friends that aren’t using real names

Digital Trends has reported that Facebook is increasingly trying to verify user details so that they can be authenticated. They explain:

According to TPM, Facebook uses a pop-up window to survey users on the validity of their friend’s names. Hoping that friends will snitch on each other, Facebook is attempting to collect the data to gain a “better understanding of our ecosystem” according to a Facebook representative. However, it’s definitely possible that the data could eventually be used to identify specific accounts that are violating Facebook’s Name policy.

Although there may be some privacy implications here, it is far better to claim your own name and build a positive digital footprint if you are going to have a presence on Facebook, be it private or public.
