20 things I learned about browsers and the web

During last Friday’s online learning session that was featured here, Victorian teacher Tony Richards discussed a book produced by Google entitled 20 things I learned about browsers and the web.

It has some useful information about cookies, malware, phishing, safe URLs and more. All sections are very brief, easy to understand and to the point.

Changing the ways we view cybersafety

Earlier in May, Victorian educator Tony Richards presented an online learning session entitled “Changing the way we view cybersafety“. This 45 minute session, which includes slides and audio is well worth investigating (note the most useful information for parents begins at the 34.00 minute mark).

Although this session is from the viewpoint of teachers, it is certainly useful for parents as well.

(You will need Java installed on your computer and the session won’t play on iDevices. There are a view lag and sound issues, but overall worth the time invested.)

The Forever Key by Tony Richards

Tony Richards, a Victorian teacher, educational podcaster and presenter has written a very useful article entitled The Forever Key. Based on the idea that when anyone clicks on ‘publish’ or ‘send’, these words or images are online forever.

Topics include:

  • strangers
  • parental over reaction
  • social networks
  • mobile security
  • sharing privacy settings

Well worth a read.
